Rajnikanth admitted in ICU

Tamil superstar Rajinikanth, who was admitted to the Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre on May 13 for recurrent respiratory infection and gastro-intestinal problems, was tonight shifted to the Intensive Care Unit.

This has been done to improve his breathing pattern, a hospital press release said adding that the actor was showing positive response to treatment. A multi-disciplinary team of doctors is busy closely watching his vital parameters to assess benefits from multi-pronged treatment strategies, it said. Doctors said he was responding well to treatment. Rajinikant, who suffered from viral fever and exhaustion recently, was admitted to SRMU at suburban Porur days after he was discharged from another hospital where he had been treated for allergic bronchitis and viral fever. He had suffered from exhaustion on April 29, the first day of the shoot of his new period film 'Rana' co-starring Deepika Padukone [ Images ], which is being directed by K S Ravikumar. He was admitted to Isabel Hospital in the city and discharged the same day, only to be readmitted there on May 4 for allergic bronchitis and viral fever. Once upon a time, there was a software engineer who used to develop programs on his Pentium machine, sitting under a tree on the banks of a river. He used to earn his bread by selling those programs in the Sunday market. One day, while he was working, his machine tumbled off the table and fell in the river. Encouraged by the Panchatantra story of his childhood (the woodcutter and the axe), he started praying to the River Goddess. The River Goddess wanted to test him and so appeared only after one month of rigorous prayers. The engineer told her that he had lost his computer in the river. As usual, the Goddess wanted to test his honesty.

She showed him a match box and asked, "Is this your computer ?" Disappointed by the Goddess' lack of computer awareness, the engineer replied, "No." She next showed him a pocket-sized calculator and asked if that was his. Annoyed, the engineer said "No, not at all!!" Finally, she came up with his own Pentium machine and asked if it was his. The engineer, left with no option, sighed and said "Yes." The River Goddess was happy with his honesty. She was about to give him all three items, but before she could make the offer, the engineer asked her, "Don't you know that you're supposed to show me some better computers before bringing up my own ?" The River Goddess, angered at this, replied, "I know that, you stupid idiot! The first two things I showed you were the Trillennium and the Billennium, the latest computers from IBM!" So saying, she disappeared with the Pentium!! Top 10 Features Facebook Desperately Needs

Facebook is a wonderful social networking website where you can connect with your friends and also with other people sharing your interests. But all this fabulous surfing on the website does not come without few regrets and desires that if fulfilled, will make the facebooking experience even more exciting. 10. Doing something other than just poking friends:

First of all, a lot people take the meaning of poking on Facebook differently. For some it is rude, for some it is fun. All in all, I for one never understood its meaning. And it would be better if besides just having an option of poking your contacts good heartedly or with any sort of otherwise intentions, Facebook should allow doing something more, like passing smiles, giving hugs, sending perhaps handshakes or thumbs up or just anything kind of on the same lines. This will make Facebook a lot more fun with friends and cheer people up a bit as well.

9. Interacting with groups and pages one is not a member of:

Another feature that Facebook doesn’t have is allowing users to comment on groups and pages they are not a member of. It makes perfect sense that one should join a group or a page if they want to interact there, but it also happens sometimes, as there are endless possibilities with many things under the sun, that a user wants to just comment on something particular only, and does not want to join the page or a group for doing this. Or at least a user should be allowed a certain number of comments to be made on a page or a group without joining and then if a user exceeds this limit of permission, he or she should be asked to join the page and not be banned from Facebook altogether, as is the action that Facebook takes when it sees such things as “harmful”.

8. Unlimited characters’ usage for a status update:

Facebook should allow a user to have a status of a limitless number of characters. Or at least it should increase it from its present allowed characters’ length. Nobody is going to write a whole story about what they are doing, but it does happen many a times that a user wants to say something more on his or her activity, or wants to elaborate on something through their status; they should be permitted to do this. If their friends don’t mind reading at length about what they have to say, Facebook should neither.

7. Remaining unbanned on Facebook:

If an administrator removes your post from their wall, he or she should only ban you from a group or a page, not ban you from the Facebook altogether. In fact, Facebook itself should not ban anyone if their activities involve nothing more than just posting many links or commenting a lot on a page, a group or on users’ walls. If the content of their links or comments is not offensive, especially then there is no reason for banning that person and closing his or her account. It does nothing more than force the person to again make a new email address to make a new Facebook account, as it does not also allow having two accounts with the same email. Add the contacts again, join pages and groups again. Facebook should save people’s time and energy in this hectic work and not ban them from Facebook for a “crime” of posting and commenting a lot. In short, for being socialites on their online network.

6. Making folders for messages:

Another feature that Facebook doesn’t has unlike most of the other platforms which do allow is to make folders of the messages that people send you or the messages that you receive from the pages or groups you have joined. You definitely want to categorize them for easier access and later use. Facebook should add this feature as soon as possible. Similarly it should have the facility of emailing or sending forward these messages to other networks. Just like I do sometimes exchange emails that I get from Gmail to Hotmail or vice versa for any particular reason.

5. Saving chat history:

Facebook should have an option of saving chat history. I do not want to mention in particular the other social media that allow saving of the chat history, but for sure this one feature for unknown reasons Facebook has not allowed its users. Many a times it happens that you want to go back on what you had said or what someone else had said in particular and you want to check back, or there has been some sharing of a link that you in a hurry at that time did not save anywhere else and now you want to go back and check that link. For these and many other such reasons, including reading back on something sweet that your friend said, chat history between users should be allowed to be saved.

4. Who is visiting me feature:

Now, when I want to add so many people on my Facebook contact list, I want to not only categorize them, that is one thing Facebook provides, but I also want to know who has visited my profile, seen my wall or links, or my photos, and how many times have they done that. So that I can know who is interested in my particular activity and who is not. I can then add or remove or interact with those users in the manner according to the feedback I would receive on my activities. There are many applications that tend to claim they can indicate who has been visiting your profile lately, but that estimation is hardly true. And what about knowing who is watching the videos I post and who is reading the articles I share and how many times do they do it. If Facebook would add this feature, the whole facebooking experience would be catapulted high. Who does not agree?

3. Having unlimited number of friends:

I don’t know why I can’t have a million friends. This world consists of so many people. Why can’t I befriend them all, if not in reality, then virtually through Facebook? This is another thing that should be a part of Facebook’s rules, not the other way round of not permitting more than a few hundreds of friends. I want to have my entire family, my cousins, my first and second cousins and yes even my grandparents to be my contacts on Facebook. My entire school fellows, my entire neighborhood and yes, pretty much everybody I have ever seen. I can keep my profile private for those I want to. This is one of the best features that Facebook allows its users. So there is no harm in adding people I have ever seen or known in my entire life on Facebook. Is there? Well, if you know of any drawbacks to adding unlimited number of friends on Facebook, please do highlight here.

Another thing that is almost annoying to those who do their most social networking through this website giving it preference over others is Facebook’s limitation on joining groups and pages. Again the same logic of it being an interactive platform applies to this demand, without fulfilling which it kills its purpose and loses its charm to an extent. What is the use of having to join only a limited number of pages and groups when we find so many pages and groups in line with our interests, and there can be really a thousand groups and pages I should be allowed to join only on my interests in cats alone. Why is Facebook asking me in a way to restrict my choices and likenesses in life, when I want to join thousands of pages and groups related to my pet, or my favorite hobby or a movie or anything for that matter? Again as a rule, Facebook ought to allow unlimited membership to any number of pages and groups a user wants to join to enhance facebooking experience. Facebook will benefit from it. If anyone knows that such a thing could bring any harm to Facebook, then please enlighten here, I would like to know the devastating secret which could harm Facebook just by providing this permission to its users.

First of all, Facebook’s primary purpose is to connect people of similar interests so that they can share their views, opinions and just about anything they want regarding their common topic. So for this reason, as a rule, Facebook ought not to have any limits on the number of links one can post and the number of comments one can make, whether they be similar or different. Because, if I am posting same links to a number of pages or groups, it means that I want to share that same thing with all. It does not mean in any way that I am spamming. Facebook should develop a separate system by which it can detect real spam and not genuine posts as spam. And similar is the case with comments. If I am posting a lot of comments which are the same, it means that I want to say the same to all, and when it is different, the Facebook should be happy instead that I am being so interactive on its platform and its purpose of creation is being served. I should be given a badge to honor my constant contributions. This will make it fun as well to show how active a user is and others can follow and find something to promote their own activities. In the end, it will not harm Facebook in anyway, but only generate more revenues for the website. I don’t know why the administrators handling such things on Facebook do not allow it to grow in this positive manner. There is no harm in it, but only good especially for its users. AHMEDABAD: Star batsman Yuvraj Singh on Thursday said that he has realised the dream of piloting India to a victory against defending champions Australia in the World Cup though it was very difficult to keep his emotions in check in the high-octane quarterfinal match.

But, the story of the afternoon has been one man - Ricky Thomas Ponting - Century in his last World Cup game against India in 2003 and a ton today as well. A recent article posted on DigitalTrends suggests that Apple are beginning iPhone 5 production for trial, this trial is mainly to test out NFC, a technology never offered by an Apple product before.

DigitalTrends sourced their information from ChinaTimes, if their source is accurate the iPhone 5 will feature a metal chassis which will ensure that there are no reception issues and there will be a 4-inch scratch resistant capacitive touch screen display .

For now we must not take these rumors too seriously, however it does make sense for Apple to thoroughly test out near-field communications before they officially release their next-gen iPhone, let’s face it poor implementation of NFC could spell trouble for the future of contactless payment methods.

Recently we revealed that RIM’s OS 6.1 devices will almost certainly feature NFC, therefore it looks as if smartphone manufacturers are keen to adopt this technology, we wonder if it will be as popular as these companies are predicting.

It is thought that the iPhone 5 will be released in June / July 2011, therefore Apple has roughly two and a half months to finalize their product. Last year’s iPhone 4 antennagate saga has ensured that everyone will be keeping a close-eye on Apple’s next smartphone, if they get it wrong we could potentially see the demise of the iPhone, what do you think?

iPhone 4G (2010) vs. 5G (2011): What we need to know?

The first thing that needs to be made clear is the fact that the rumored iPhone 4G will not offer 4G/LTE speeds – this just means that it is the 4th-generation smarphone from Apple. However, we recently learned that Apple has a job listing for someone familiar with LTE.

This means that Apple are working on a full 4G working iPhone, but it will not be this year for a number of reason. One of those reasons is that AT&T are a long way off with its 4G development – as the carrier is making improvements to its current 3G data service first.

So what do we expect to see with the rumored iPhone 4G in June? I would say that it would not have all the amazing features that have been suggested to us. If you are hoping for a new design – such as some of the concept HD or Pro handsets we have seen – then we think you will be disappointed.

The 2010 model will have a few new features, these could include an improved camera, improved battery performance – which will be thanks to a newer version of the iPhone OS.

As for the Apple iPhone 5G, this is the model that will look totally different – maybe something like those concepts that we mentioned above. This new model could also come with newer hardware, such as a declocked iPad A4 processor, OLED screen and iPhone OS 4.0. Do not expect any Flash Player support, Steve Jobs already announced that they would never support this, as it is too buggy – instead preferring to go down the HTML 5 option.

Another holiday season, another batch of fresh iPods. We’ve been testing the new Touch, Nano and Shuffle to see how they fare with last year’s models. Find our full impressions on all three here.

iPod Touch

What’s New The Touch is now almost up to speed with the iPhone 4: new is a high-res Retina display at 960 x 640 pixels; both a back and front-facing camera for HD video and FaceTime, respectively; a speedy Apple A4 chip; gyroscopes for more accurate tilt controls; and a chassis that’s been shaved down to just over a quarter of an inch thick.

The Verdict While still a notch down from the iPhone 4 in a few departments, App Store access with no contract in a package this sexy remains a no-brainer for those in need of a dedicated MP3 player that’s not a phone.

iPod Nano

The Bad Always-on data and GPS aside, the Touch still isn’t quite an iPhone. The rear camera is not nearly as good. When compared to the iPhone 4, its video noticeably lacks contrast and saturation, and in still mode, the max resolution is a paltry 960 x 720 compared to the iPhone 4′s impressive five-megapixel sensor. In their reviewer’s guide, Apple doesn’t even mention the camera’s ability to take stills, so this is obviously something they’re not proud of. And while the display matches the iPhone’s ultra-high resolution, the panel is not quite as crisp and contrasty.

The Good The iPhone-without-the-phone keeps getting better. It surpassed the Nano this year as the best-selling iPod with good reason —it gets you into the App Store, matches the iPhone as the best mobile computing device when you’re within Wi-Fi coverage, and is one of the sleekest industrial designs in Apple’s portfolio —all without an AT&T contract.

What’s New Bye bye clickwheel. The new Nano is Apple’s latest multitouch convert. The form factor is now more Shuffle than Nano, and it also includes a clip.

The Bad I’ve got to say, I miss the clickwheel. I don’t disagree with Apple’s current core design philosophy that touch interfaces are the future. But the new Nano demonstrates where multitouch can get dicey —when the screen is too small. At just 1.54 inches (diagonal) the Nano’s display can fit only three-and-a-half list items (songs, albums with art, etc) on the screen at once. That means a lot of swiping to get through a longer album’s tracks (and a partially obscured view of the screen while you’re doing it). You don’t want to cut all the hilarious interludes from your Lil’ Wayne mixtape just to save space now, do you?

The Good The new Nano shrinks all the music capabilities of the old one (video is out) into a crazy small package. Also, the clock screen saver doubles as a wristwatch!

Navigating menus can also be tricky. A right-swipe brings you back a step, and a left swipe uncovers additional options at certain points. But the small screen often forces you to make both gestures over other tappable controls already on the screen. This can result in mis-taps, especially if you’re switching tracks while fading fast on the treadmill like I do at around mile three.

The Price $150 for 8GB, $180 for 16GB, all in seven colors

The Verdict My previous-gen Nano can display ten text list items and six album covers per screen, and provides a more intuitive way to scroll through them quickly without blocking the screen. This could come down to personal preference, but for me, the hard buttons are more advantageous than a smaller form factor. Because hey, both iPods are practically weightless. If you exercise in pocketless clothing and hate to strap on an armband, the more capacious Nano with its clip (and screen) could be a nice step-up from your workout Shuffle. But beware the tiny touchscreen.

What’s New Gone is the no-buttons, stick-of-chewing-gum design from the last generation, killed in favor of something that more closely resembles the second-generation’s round ring of buttons. They’ve made the controls larger while shrinking the overall product; now it’s an even tinier aluminum chip clip with buttons.

The Good One day, Apple will find a way to sell us something with multitouch that doesn’t have a screen. As of now they haven’t (YET), so the new Shuffle relies on a hybrid control scheme from previous generations that works perfectly. Gone is the headphone wire remote for advancing tracks according to a coded morse code of clicks; it’s been replaced by the second-gen’s friendly round of control buttons. What remains from the buttonless previous version is the cool VoiceOver feature that will announce the current track name, artist, playlist or battery remaining at the press of a dedicated button. It’s such a useful feature, it should be standard across the line (How many times have you pulled your shuffling music player from your pocket to ID a song you couldn’t quite remember?). Plus, it’s fun to hear Mr. Synth Voice pronounce your favorite artists and tracks (“Yeah-Ma-Ha….The Dream”).

The Bad Sure, it’s more convenient to have a screen, but that’s not really the point here. And the headphone-mounted clickable remote would have been handy, but its absence means many will just clip the thing somewhere external and use the buttons on the face.

It’s not often Apple admits it’s wrong, but in smartly reigning the crazier, buttonless Shuffle back in and adding buttons, they’ve improved on a product that tops all previous generations easily.

The Price $50 for 2GB in five colors
